Retail CV

The retail sector is actually more competitive than many people think when it comes to applying for jobs. Gone are the days when a hurriedly compiled basic DIY could get you a job at the drop of a hat. Obviously, it depends upon what level you are aiming at, and the higher you aim, the better the competition, and the better your CV needs to be.

However, even at the lower end of the scale many people would be surprised to see the level of competition, and nowadays people are applying for general supermarket jobs with pretty decent CVs.

So what is a

retail CV

?

Actually there is no such thing as a typical retail CV. The sector is so diverse, and is made up of so many different functions that there is no definitive version. For example, when people think of retail, they tend to think of people on the shop floor. However, there are many more associated disciplines including warehouse staff, drivers, supervisors, managers, logistics, marketing, sales, merchandising, IT/technical, accounts, executives and much more.

Not only that, but these roles also vary depending upon what you are trying to sell and how you are trying to sell it. For example, online retailers tend to operate differently to high street retailers. Moreover, when they recruit retail professionals, they don't necessarily look for the same skills and traits as a high street retailer would.

There is actually a lot more to the retail sector, and applying for a job in retail than meets the eye. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a job in retail, no matter what the job, or what level, a general rule still applies. Namely that the better your CV and cover letter, the better your job prospects.
